Tektronix TM515

The modularity of the TM 500 series allows many functions to be performed by the plug-in modules. The TM 515 (Traveler) power module mainframe has been designed for portability. It holds up to five plug-in modules and includes a comfortable, luggage-type handle and molded feet on the bottom. It is moisture and dust resistant and can withstand the rigors of transport. The rear cover pops off to access the power cord and power switch, and to allow airflow for the built-in fan. It provides unregulated ac and dc supplies and non-dedicated power transistors for use by the plug-ins. The mainframe does not have a high-power compartment (so care must be taken in selecting modules), but does feature forced-air cooling.

With five plug-in modules installed in the mainframe, the TM 515 may require up to 240 W of power at the upper limits of the high line voltage ranges. The actual amount of power consumed depends on the particular module combination and operating mode selected at any one time.

Although the plug-in modules of other Tektronix product families are very similar, they are not electrically compatible. The TM 506 interface has barriers on the mating connectors between pins 6 and 7 to ensure that incompatible modules cannot be inserted. The TM 500-compatible plug-in modules are easily identified by the white color of the release latch.

The modularity of the TM 500 series allows many functions to be performed by the plug-in modules. The TM 506 can be configured to accept only modules of a specific functional class of modules with the installation of a second barrier in the interface connector to match the slot location of the module.
