The Aurora can be hand-held like a normal telephone handset or laid on it back when in use; it cannot be stood on end. The Aurora is an Intergrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) tester. It is designed to emulate the Primary Rate service at the NT and TE ends of a Primary Rate link.
Establishment and clearing of a Primary Rate connection entails a negotiation between the terminal and the network using special protocols. The Trend Aurora test the correct operation of these protocols and reports success or failure of the call control to the operator on its Liquid Crystal Display (LCD). Aurora also operates over fixed links with certain protocols.
When you have made or answered a call, Aurora allows you to test the integrity of the connection. For data calls a Bit Error Rate (BER) test can be done to test the qaulity of service. For voice alls either a speech test may be made with another party, or a BER test performed.
Aurora Monitor is also available for monitoring of Primary Rate lines. The information received by the Aurora Monitor may be passed to a special protocol decode package that runs on a Personal Computer.
